Classic Scope with Fiber Guard - LED/Fiber Installation

PLEASE READ ALL STEPS BEFORE BEGINNING:

1.      Place LED with cable clamp at 1 o’clock position and mark hole center.

2.      Drill hole through fiber guard for 8-32 screw and nut, or drill and tap for   8-32 screw as shown.  Temporarily install LED using cable clamp.

3.      If using blue fiber, it’s best to use included Teflon sheathing.  If not using blue fiber, the current sheathing may be used - go to Step 6.

4.      Remove current sheathing from scope and blue fiber from Teflon sheathing.  Using a sharp blade, shave the last 3/8” of one end of Teflon sheathing to a diameter that will fit into fiber guard/stainless steel pin location.

5.      Using needle-nose pliers, carefully push Teflon sheathing into base of scope about 1/4”-3/8” and over SS Pin.  Do not over squeeze sheathing.

6.      Slip brass cotter pins over sheathing, aligning with holes.  Wrap sheathing around fiber guard in grooves and next to black cap of LED Assembly.  Cut sheathing off at 7/16”-1/2” from tip of black cap toward LED wires.  Verify screws will still hold cotter pins in place.  If pins work, loosen screws; if pins don’t work, remove them from sheathing and proceed.

7.      Install sheathing into LED Assembly.  Trim sheathing to length until it wraps snugly around scope in grooves and fits into LED assembly about 7/16”.  Sheathing should not quite bottom out in LED Assembly.

8.      Remove sheathing from LED Assembly and fiber guard; set aside.

9.      Insert fiber into SS Pin from BOTTOM of fiber guard.  DO NOT insert fiber from viewing end of SS Pin - doing so will reduce brightness.  Continue feeding fiber through SS Pin until it sticks out of viewing end of SS Pin about 1/32”.  Allow fiber to hang, but be careful not to kink it.

10.      Flare viewing end of fiber to desired size, see Step 1 of Competition Scope Installation on other side of this sheet.  Do not over flare fiber, if you do, remove fiber and start over at Step 9.  Gently pull hanging fiber so viewing end is flush or almost flush with SS Pin.

11.    Carefully slip sheathing over hanging fiber.  Re-install sheathing into base of fiber guard and over SS Pin as in Step 5.  Do not kink fiber.

12.    Cut fiber 3/16” longer than sheathing and flair it according to Step 1 of Competition Scope Installation on other side of this sheet.

13.    Re-insert sheathing with flared fiber into LED assembly as in Step 7.   Hold LED and cable clamp while tightening down button head screw.

14.    If using cotter pins; tighten holding screws down and skip Step 15.

15.    Looking at scope from viewing side, use 1/8” drill bit to add a hole at 11 o'clock and 7 o’clock, about 1/4” in from fiber guard groove toward scope center.  Use a Zip-tie at each hole to secure sheathing to fiber guard.
